Welcome to Day 2! Mary played one of the most important roles in the true meaning of Christmas, that was being the mother of Jesus Christ.  I learned so much about Mary, in the little information that is known about her. What a brave woman she had to be.  Here are 5 things I learned about her.

(Disclaimer: I am not a scholar at all, I may be off base on some of my thoughts, but that’s the thing, these are my thoughts and feelings to the situation.)

Facts about Mary #1:

She was engaged to Joseph, who she barely knew.  Before they were to be married she had a visit from an Angel named Gabriel. The Angel Gabriel said that she was highly favored of the Lord and that the Lord is with her.  As well as that she was blessed among women. Can you imagine being told that from an Angel. Granted we all know that Heavenly Father loves us and that he is with us, but to be told by an Angel, would be a pretty amazing experience!

Facts about Mary #2

The Angel Gabriel tells her that she is going to conceive a son.  Not only is she supposed to conceive a son out of wedlock, he is to be called Jesus. He also says that, “He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” Luke 1: 32-33 Wow what big shoes she was going to have to fill to hear that your son was going to be called the Son of the Highest.  I can’t even imagine the anxiety I would feel hearing this. However, the amazing thing about Mary is that she went forward having faith that Joseph would understand and not be upset.  She had faith in knowing that what Gabriel was speaking was true and from what I can tell didn’t complain at all about this experience.

Facts about Mary #3

The miracles didn’t stop there.  The Angel Gabriel continues to tell her that her cousin Elisabeth who is barren will also conceive a son in her old age.  And he says something that is super important For with God nothing shall be impossible!! If there is nothing you get out of these 7 days I hope that this is one thing that you will know and that I believe with all my heart.  God does the impossible, and surprises us every day.

Facts about Mary #4

The next thing that happened, would be the craziest experience.  Mary left her house, after the Angel left her, and went unto her cousin Elisabeth’s house. And when they said their hello’s the babe leaped inside her womb and she was filled with the spirit of the Lord.  Now whether it means it literally or not, wouldn’t that just be the craziest thing to have happen? She was not married, and yet she was pregnant.

Facts about Mary #5

How do you think that you would have reacted if this situation would have happened to you? Do you think that you would have complained and started telling yourself that you were not worthy enough to have this happen? I think I would have.  I think I would have said why me? Mary never did, the only time you might have sensed that about her was when she inquired of the Angel, “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?” (Luke 1:34.) However this question was not of doubt it was of how this was supposed to be seeing she was not married. After he answered her and told her not to fear she never doubted she just went forward with faith.

That’s not all about Mary

As I started doing my studying a found a lot of other scriptures about Mary’s life while Jesus was doing his ministry as well as his death.  I am not quite through studying up on everything about her so after I have completed my studying I will share more about her because she was such a magnificent woman, that not only helped (and when I say helped I mean that Heavenly Father also raised His Son) raise the Son of God, but she also cared for those around her.
