True Meaning of Christmas Day 6: Shepherds

Did you notice that I didn’t post yesterday? Well, I got my counting all off and realized my days were wrong.  I really wanted to talk about the Shepherds on Christmas Eve, because on the Eve of Christ’s birth an angel appeared to the shepherds. That is why I decided to not post yesterday.  I hope you can forgive me. Since I know you guys have been on the edge of your seats since yesterday, let us begin! A group of shepherds we just minding their business watching over their flocks of sheep.  When an angel of the Lord appeared to them.  He said to them the most popular saying which was, “Fear not, for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And […]

True Meaning of Christmas Day 5: Joseph and Mary Travel to Bethlehem

There isn’t a lot in the scriptures about Joseph and Mary’s travel to Bethlehem. What it does say is that there went out a decree (or notice) from Caesar Augustus that his empire will be taxed every one in their own cities.  I found it interesting that it doesn’t just mean being taxed with money.  It also means that they will be enrolled or registered as part of the being taxed. Meaning they take a record of who lives in what city like a Census.  I found this beautiful video that gives us a little insight into their travel.  I feel this is a good representation of their travel without dramatizing it too much. Let’s take a look! Insights of video: Joseph gave great attention to Mary as they were traveling. He made sure that she had water to drink. Also, I don’t know if you noticed but he made […]

True Meaning of Christmas Day 3: Zacharias & Elisabeth

Hello and welcome to Day 3! I am so grateful that you have been joining me.  It has been so fun for me to learn and have a place for me to share what I have learned.  I hope that you have learned a little bit with me.  Today I wanted to share some things I learned about Elisabeth (Mary’s Cousin), her husband Zacharias, and their son John (the Baptist as he is known in later years). Zacharias Zacharias was a priest, and had a wife named Elisabeth. It says in the scriptures that they were both “righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.” Luke 1: 6. They, like many people today, had no children because Elisabeth was considered barren, and they were also old in age. Zacharias had an amazing experience. An angel appears to him and  tells him that the Lord has […]

True Meaning of Christmas Day 2: The Virgin, Mary

Welcome to Day 2! Mary played one of the most important roles in the true meaning of Christmas, that was being the mother of Jesus Christ.  I learned so much about Mary, in the little information that is known about her. What a brave woman she had to be.  Here are 5 things I learned about her. (Disclaimer: I am not a scholar at all, I may be off base on some of my thoughts, but that’s the thing, these are my thoughts and feelings to the situation.) Facts about Mary #1: She was engaged to Joseph, who she barely knew.  Before they were to be married she had a visit from an Angel named Gabriel. The Angel Gabriel said that she was highly favored of the Lord and that the Lord is with her.  As well as that she was blessed among women. Can you imagine being told that […]

True Meaning of Christmas Day 1: Prophecies of Jesus Christ’s birth?

Did you know that there were prophecies (divine message from God) of Jesus Christ’s birth before he was born?  It’s true!!  Heavenly Father wanted people to know of this event before hand so they could start declaring it to others. Many prophets in the Bible and Book of Mormon foretold Jesus Christ’s birth and ministry hundreds of years before the actual event. We will look at a few of those. Prophecy 1: The first prophecy happened 700 years before His birth. Isaiah, a prophet in the Old Testament, prophesied that a pure woman would give birth to Heavenly Father’s Son. In Isaiah 7:14, it reads; ““Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Also, in Isaiah 9:6; “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called […]

Gratitude

Today was one of those days at church where you just don’t want to leave because the spirit was so strong there and you want to hold on to that feeling forever.  Every testimony, lesson, and song, was what I needed to hear and spoke right to my heart.  Our ward is so amazing and they have some of the strongest testimonies I have heard or felt. I have really grown to love these woman more than they will know. Today in Relief Society the teacher gave the lesson from a talk given by Thomas S. Monson titled, “The Divine Gift of Gratitude.”  He mentions in his talk: “Regardless of our circumstances, each of us has much for which to be grateful if we will but pause and contemplate our blessings. This is a wonderful time to be on earth. While there is much that is wrong in the world […]
